Leaving Tieton, the 4 blocks and a plaza town...

The green building used to be the old hotel, next door is the post office and Santos Bakery which was my downfall. 

The beautiful little plaza which during Tieton community days (summer) is full of people.

 

The eatery on the corner is closed at present. Perhaps you want to run a little restaurant?

 

That's the little house I stayed in on the left and the most dramatic sunset.

We have left after 6 weeks in this very magic place.

A New Member

Ginger has been sad since Simon died. And to make myself feel better I started reading the animal rescue sites. And then I saw this photo and read the story and well, that was that. 

Chica is a 7 pound chihuahua who was abandoned in an orchard. The family who rescued her could not catch her, she was so terrified. She had been bitten by coyotes and had terrible injuries. She was finally captured with a trap, but the vet did not think she would survive. She is one tough little dog. She lived with the family who saved her for 6 months and they loved her so much, but she wasn't safe on their ranch/farm. Too many horses to step on her (30!!! they lead tours of winerys  on horseback)

She is a funny little angel. I guess some people wouldn't want her because of the scars on her back, but I haven't seen Ginger look so happy since Simon died... more to follow!

Hoar frost

At 4pm today Monty and I took a walk. It was freezing out and the world was still enveloped in the fog coat it's had on for 3 days. I thought it was sunny all the time in Tieton. But the hoar frost everywhere is very beautiful...

why do we like what we like?

i like this kitty painting. Enough to buy it for 15 dollars.

The colors? The feet? The odd kitty smile missing a bit on one side.

It is well framed, someone was proud of the work.

but why do I like it? If you know please leave me a note...

Goathead Press

 I am spending 5 days getting oriented and working at Goathead Press right here in Tieton!

It is a beautiful space with all kinds of framed prints on the walls to draw inspiration from. 

That a town the size of Tieton would have a space like this...

 It has been a long time since I've done any relief printmaking and I am rusty. I don't know how to think of the project beforehand. It seems the opposite of how I paint. But, I am muddling through because I want to work in here when/if we live here. I'm most interested in etching and collograph. 

My print had two plates, one lino and one wood. I liked carving the wood more. (It's crunchy).

I ended up with 4 decent prints.

What a great day...

Today G and I got to help out in the book bindery at Mighty Tieton. Mighty Tieton is the amazing publishing company run by Ed Marquand. He publishes art books, catalogs, and letterpress books. G and I got to mail 400 copies of this very cool letterpress book. But the wonderful part of the day was sitting at the window watching Tieton people, and the clouds. We also got to chat with  Jasmine, Maria and Steve. It was just great to feel helpful and a part of things.

Falling Trees and Daily Life

Two nights ago it was very windy. G was staying at my house a block away. She went home in the am and found this! (The little green house is where she is staying). Needless to say it knocked out all the power in Tieton.

These silos are right in town. I love the way they look.

Last but not least... spending time in the Tieton laundromat.
