Green Smoothie

Yes, I have gotten carried away with the Harmony drawing program.
Not too much more to say. I have 4 paintings percolating and I'm trying to organize my collage piles. I need another month to just work in the studio. Hmmnnn, time to apply for another residency? Meanwhile, it's back to work tomorrow.

Insecurity

Today I dropped my piece off for the Mayor's Art Show. It was wonderful to see my friend D. Thanks for all the work you do at the Jacobs Gallery...
I'm so happy to be in this show.
I loved that someone said "you have to be good to use the color pink".
And... I still wonder when "they" will find out I'm just the little fat kid from podunk nowhere who could never do what my teacher wanted.
We are all such a mix of our past and present.
Whenever I show my work I am so grateful to all my teachers, friends and family who tell me I am ok no matter what crazy thing I make.
I love art. Big time.

Announcements

I will have pieces in two exhibits soon. My pink painting will be part of the Eugene Mayor's Art Show, and my "shoes" part of the MECCA Object Afterlife Challenge. The opening for the Mayor's Art Show is Thursday, August 26th at 5:30. The MECCA exhibit will be open during the Eugene Celebration at 43 E. Broadway (the old MECCA building) and then up at MECCA next to the train station in September.
I'm usually not an exhibit person, so this is being very fun.
I'm happy and will try not to stare at my feet during the openings.

Things that fascinate me

Do you ever want to buy things that make no sense? Except that they do make sense in some part of your brain or memory that is not exactly accessible? This rubber dolly at the estate sale was large and heavy. All her rubber parts had turned a very odd shade of brown except her face. I didn't buy her, but I should have.
I really want to paint her portrait.

The object afterlife challenge

These are finished except for hanging them from a cool little blue bouy Ms. L. left at the coast house. The buttons are fake fur.

I like the weird hands...
and this was a challenge and pretty fun.

How to be alone...

I saw this video on Mary Ann Moss's blog... I really liked it, it reminded me of Nebraska...

Red Kitty

I know there are sophisticated computer programs for drawing and someday I will investigate. But for now the little Harmony drawing program is way fun. Maybe because it's hard to make anything too fussy...

Working in bits and pieces

I have been way too busy lately. I think it's a summer thing.
A few years ago I went to a figure drawing workshop where I was the worst student there. (That's a whole other story!) But, the teacher showed some of her work: beautiful, large paintings. One student said "oh you can do these because you have all this time". The teacher smiled and said that between raising children and teaching full time all her paintings were mostly completed in half hour increments. This made a big impression on me.

Tonight I added a bit of white to my panels...

The Third Dimension

These are the most wonderful hair rollers! (except there is still some hair- ick- clinging to them). They are great colors. There are probably a couple hundred, several bags. G and I got them for the measley sum of 2 dollars at a garage sale.

Any of you 3D artists interested? Seems like they would make a thoughtful sculpture... Let me know, I'll get them to you!

I'm working on my MECCA sculpture. Seems like I have little imagination when it comes to the third dimension. I'm painting these cardboard shoe forms as if they were flat. And that white paper stuck to the one form is a xerox transfer in progress.

It was a fun day. I love my studio.

Do we know what makes us happy?

Olive makes me happy.
This drawing makes me even happier.
