Laughing at Oneself

So, here is my story for today... At work while talking to K and D... K looks at me and then at my pants and asks "what is that hanging off your butt?" The above photo shows Simon's doggie diaper, Kotex side out stuck to the seat of my pants via the velcro. I had been walking around like this for at least an hour at work. I guess I managed to sit on Simon's diaper while putting on my shoes at home. No wonder I couldn't find it, I looked all over the house!
Oh well, we all laughed really hard, and laughter is precious.

Movie Number Two... all in one day!

The second movie today was "Let the Right One In" a Swedish vampire film. Now if that doesn't sound good to some of you, think again. I HATE horror movies. I HATE being scared. That being said, I loved "Buffy" and enjoyed "Twilight" (novel, haven't seen the film yet). This movie was strange and beautiful and horrible and A and I agreed mesmerizing. It was just an amazing story of two 12 year olds, one a vampire and their relationship to each other and the bullies and indifferent people surrounding them...and now I have to go to bed, YAWN, back to work tomorrow. What a wild and image filled day.

Movie Day

My friend wanted to see this movie, so at 1130am I was at the mall, one of a half dozen people in the theater. The version we saw was in 3-D which I had never experienced and it was so amazing and fun. This was a creepy, creative, inventive film where mice, spiders, and strange dogs fly out from the screen and suddenly appear right by your nose courtesy of 3-D glasses. The colors and design of the film were odd and "off". Michele, it made me think of you because the heroine missed Pontiac so much! Be sure and stay through the credits for more 3-D effects.

Then tonight A and I are going to the vampire movie. More on that later. Hope everyone is having a good Monday.

Girl with a Boot- collagraph

Two legs and one big black boot. Guess I was thinking of my friend's broken foot. And gluing and pasting and just "making". For you local folks go see the show at Maude Kern's. Three women have transformed a room with painting and sculpture. It's good.
I'm cutting mats and framing. Ugh, I'd rather take wallpaper off which is the other task I'm doing. Almost done with that one.

My cousin took me to this incredible museum called The Nethercutt Collection. It houses the collections of the couple who owned Merle Norman cosmetics. It is FULL of beautiful cars, but the objects I loved the most were the hood ornaments and automated music makers. And the museum is free! We had a really interesting tour. Above is a travel trailer from the twenties. It was so beautiful, SJ don't you want it?

It's been such a busy week at work, I'm just now taking a breath from the last 10 days. I'm sitting here with Oscar the kitty on my lap, happy to wake up tomorrow to a quieter day. I had a TON of fun in LA, but at heart I'm kind of a quiet homebody.

Dogbone Man and Crooked Glasses Reader

The more I draw, the more I enjoy it. For me it's also about accepting myself as I am. For so long I didn't think I was good enough, I hated my drawings. I have such a different feeling now. I realize that everyone makes a unique line. I enjoy my lines. Sometimes the drawings make me laugh. It makes time that would feel "useless" feel pleasurable. And I'm excited about making these drawings into paintings using xerox transfer.
Can't wait for the weekend, for more time to dig in to my studio again.

Clifton's Cafeteria...

I had a great Los Angeles visit with my cousins this weekend. We took a drive to downtown LA and walked all over and then had lunch at Clifton's Cafeteria...

Clifton's seats 600 persons and hasn't changed much since 1950. The interior looks like a 1950s version of Knotts Berry Farm that is a bit faded and worn (for you California people who are my age). There is a waterfall and a chapel in a fake tree.

You pick up your Jello cubes, liver and onions, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, stew and veggies and move on down the line. Some patrons have been coming here decades, since they were little kids coming after church on Sundays. Clifton's is still run by the same family. Kudos to this family for feeding hungry people (food banks) for all these years.
I'll write a bit more about my long LA weekend this week. Now I have to catch up on every one's blogs!
